More about this Episode

The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) organizational change landscape and future are exciting. And, one thing is for sure as history demonstrates, all things ERP organizational change will continue to evolve, and especially the technology.  All would agree that a successful ERP organizational change requires that the appropriate emphasis is placed on three areas; technology, people, and processes.

As long as there are organizations, ERP organizational change will include people, processes, and technology.

The ERP organizational change practice will continue to evolve and create opportunities to revolutionize ERP value and benefit to organizations.  One thing is certain, ERP organizational change is a dynamic and complex interplay of people (or organizational culture), processes, and technology. There has been a great deal of discussion, research, and many articles (opinions, research-based, journal, case studies, etc) regarding this “triad”. And, there are plenty of views, perspectives, experiences, opinions, and questions around each one of these triad factors.

Advancements in technology and emerging technologies will certainly reset the table, but how exactly? And, what does it mean to your organization?

Let’s have fun and discuss the trends, possibilities, and future of ERP and digital transformation as a result of technology.

Episode Highlights: Digital Transformation using Emerging Technologies

04:42 How would you define digital transformation?

05:45 What are some of the biggest benefits of digital transformation?

07:35 What are some of the greatest risks and challenges in digital transformation?

10:34 How do you think emerging technologies will technology change the triad? Asked another way, how will technology make up for gaps, challenges, and risks within the people and process factors of digital transformation and ERP organizational change triad?

13:47 How Will Technology Impact “True Differentiators”?

That is, what will emerging technologies contribute to software and ERP vendors and their platforms in terms of what Nestell & Associates calls “true differentiators”? We’ve written about the value of digital transformation solutions in general and ERP system selection specifically explaining that there is “only one right fit for every organization”. Our 12/23/2019 post “Private Equity Portfolio ERP Success: The Value of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) True Differentiators” we discussed how there is one best ERP solution for each unique organization. This article emphasized how research strongly suggests that ERP systems and technology selection are a critical influence for a successful ERP organizational change project. Anything thoughts on this idea?

15:55 Your book Digital Transformation using Emerging Technologies, Give us a brief Chapter by chapter review. For each of these if you would please share from a high level, what role do you think these technologies will ultimately play? What role do you think these technologies play in supporting ERP organizational change success?

17:15 What can you share about the future of Cloud Computing? And what can you share about the core service model and the benefits for transforming legacy IT to Cloud?

21:33 Microsoft Azure? Can you dive more into Microsoft Azure Cloud and outline the key services and tools it offers.

25:01 What is Machine Learning exactly? What are the possible benefits for organizations and what are the challenges and the future of Machine learning?

26:45 What about Artificial Intelligence? What are the possible benefits and business use cases? And maybe add your view regarding AI governance, Responsible AI, and Technical Advancements in AI?

37:30 Here is something that people hear a lot of these days, “The Internet of Things”. What are some of the business values and use cases? And what are the potential IoT challenges and the future of this technology?

41:41 As fellow practitioners, we absolutely benefit from learning from our colleagues and friends, both “boots on the ground” as well as researchers. How would you summarize this conversation? That is, if you had to distill your work into a few sentences, what would you say to ERP organizational change practitioners?  When it comes to digital transformation and ERP implementation, would you have any key best practices to offer?
